I had studied Body Art for years. I knew the meanings that it took in different cultures. For some it was a connection to spirits or deities. The body used as a canvas decorated with paint, permanent tattoos and body piercings. I had never expected to be part of it.

I had been forced into a culture that had been totally foreign to me. Now I was a part of it. Today I would become their Queen. I looked into the old cracked mirror and saw that I had been transformed. My body had been tattooed with the marks of a Cheetah. My face and ears dyed a shade of yellow and the marks of the Cheetah cut into my face. The piercing on my body, with the jewelry of the tribe, marked my journey to become their Queen.

Body art can be the expression of someone’s Individuality but for me now, it was the sharing of their group identity. It means I was conforming and made into a part of their culture. The crown of the “Snake Queen” was heavy on my head and the snake wrapped around my body squirmed and hissed. I was now the.” The Voodoo Queen of the Snake”!

Like poetry, fashion does not state anything. It merely suggests.
